Dear Brimfield 309 Families,

We have had a great start to the school year and want to take a quick moment to talk about something super important to all of us: keeping our kids safe.

Our district is continuing to use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for all school safety procedures. If you’re not familiar with it, SRP is a simple, action-based safety framework created by The "I Love U Guys" Foundation. It uses clear, consistent language so students, staff, and first responders all know exactly what to do in any situation.

All of our safety drills throughout the school year will align directly with these five SRP actions:
HOLD: "In your room or area." Used when hallways need to be kept clear (for example, a medical emergency in a corridor).
SECURE: "Get inside. Lock exterior doors." Used when there’s a potential threat or hazard outside the school building. Classes go on inside as normal!
LOCKDOWN: "Locks, lights, out of sight." Used when there is a threat or hazard inside the building.
EVACUATE: "To a location." Used to move students and staff from one place to another (like during a fire drill).
SHELTER: "State the hazard and safety strategy." Used during severe weather or environmental hazards.

What’s New This Year? - Building Our SRM Plan
Beyond SRP, our safety team is actively working on strengthening our Standard Reunification Method (SRM) plan—the process we use to safely reconnect students with their families during an unexpected emergency.

Here are a few things you can expect to see from us this year as we sharpen our safety plans:
Clear & Regular Communication: We’ll be sharing more quick guides and tips throughout the year so everyone gets comfortable with the exact SRP and SRM terms we use.
Drill Signage: To keep everyone informed in real-time, we will place visible signs at exterior doors during drills or situations (like a SECURE sign on main doors letting visitors know entry is temporarily paused).
Reunification Practice: Our staff will be practicing mock reunification scenarios behind the scenes so that if a real emergency ever happens, we are ready to get your children back into your arms smoothly and safely.

Safety works best when we’re all on the same team, and we are so grateful for your partnership in keeping our schools a secure, welcoming place to learn. We will be sharing tips throughout the school year to better prepare all of us for emergency situations, should they arise.
