Happy Friday Brimfield, BHS had another full, successful week. Our volleyball team had two great wins at home this week. They are off to quite the season so far. Our football team continued their winning streak as well on Friday, and they take on St. Teresa in Decatur tonight. On Tuesday our Spanish 4 students and Ms. Henson hosted our Mark Bills Life Skills friends again. And Ms. Ross offered our students several opportunities this past week including a Bradley University visit, an ICC visit, a Golden Apple Scholarship Program visit, and she also ran the first ACT study group. Families can keep updated with the various opportunities Ms. Ross offers all our students by following her Facebook page, BHS Counseling. Our students have continued to work towards our attendance goals that we set last school year. Every day we record our school-wide attendance rate on the office door, as well as the amount of morning tardies. BHS students have kept the morning tardies under five every single school day this year. There is typically between zero and two tardies each day. This is a massive improvement from the start of last school year. Furthermore, our attendance rate has been over 95% every single day with the exception of August 30th. Finally, our chronic absenteeism rate is still slightly higher than we would like with 10.3% of our students having missed more than 10% of the school year so far. Seven of those students are likely to increase their attendance rates next week with five days of attendance, taking our chronic absenteeism rate down to 6.5%. Please know that students must maintain an attendance rate of 90% to be able to participate in extracurricular activities. This information can be found on p. 17 of the BHS handbook. Students were and are currently invited to try out for our Academic Challenge team (formerly WYSE)! This is a great opportunity if students enjoy academic competitions and want to test their knowledge in subjects like English, math, science, and more. Plus, it looks great on college applications and resumes! A google form was sent to all students’ email to sign up. They can also chat with Ms. Barrow or Ms. Carter if they have any questions. Also, the cheapest time to get the 2024-2025 yearbook is now until Sept. 27th. The grade level that has the highest percentage of bought yearbooks will earn a free homeroom period. Again, this is until Friday the 27th and it is the cheapest price offered. You can purchase one online at Jostens.com. There’s plenty going on next week here at BHS. If weather cooperates, our Student Council will host the second annual Powder Puff games on Wednesday and Friday during homeroom. Wednesday is an early dismissal day, with students leaving at 1:50 pm. On Wednesday night, Mrs. Walser and Ms. Ross are holding a Class of 2025 Parent meeting. They will discuss key dates, graduation requirements, FAFSA/Financial Aid (our ISAC state rep will be attending in-person to answer your questions), when to expect the scholarship packets, college applications, transcripts, taking tours, and any questions you have about senior year. Thursday is our third themed dress up day, Super Hero Day. The grade level with the greatest participation will earn a free homeroom period. Finally, on Friday it’s time again for Friday Night Lights as the boys will take on Farmington at home. Come cheer them on. On behalf of the entire BHS staff, have a lovely weekend and #Shape309.

September 11, 2024 Hello, Are you ready for some football? We are ready to host our first E/B Trojan’s home game this Friday! Safety is always the number one priority for all school events, the administration has set rules to ensure that everyone has a wonderful gameday experience! Our goal is to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees. Most of our high school students participate in football, spirit squad, and/or the band. We encourage our high school students to watch the game in the bleachers near the band. The playground is closed during games due to safety issues in the dark. This also pertains to people coming in from Morgan Street that are not attending the event. No footballs are allowed into the game. Throwing items or playing catch is prohibited. All spectators need to stay inside the outer fence and flagged-off areas. JH and GS students need to have a paying adult (or with a pass) to enter the game. This rule is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our younger students. Our ticket takers will not accept money from anyone younger than a high school student trying to enter the game unaccompanied by an adult. In the event of severe weather, announcements will be made from the press box and the teams will be sent to designated areas. We want our students, parents, grandparents, families, community members, and fans to cheer on the Trojans and to support the cheer and band members! Please let the administration know of any issues that are affecting your ability to enjoy the game. -- Tony McCoy JH/HS Principal Elmwood CUSD #322 Office- 309-742-2851 Fax- 309-742-8350

Mrs. Steele got BHS students a little culture building task for lunchtime, and needless to say, the kids tackled it straight away on day #1. Can't wait to see it completed and LOVE what they did with the B! #Shape309
