Happy Friday Brimfield,
BHS continues to exude excellence. Our short week wasn’t short on learning or fun. On Tuesday our band and choir performed in their first concert of the year. Mr. Ericson and Mrs. Gibbs have our students performing to a high standard. They sounded wonderful. On Thursday, we honored our seniors at our home volleyball game. The evening was a full celebration of our seniors with Class of 2025 announcers, athletes, and national anthem singers. It was a great night to showcase our awesome students. Finally, on Friday our students competed in our first grade level competitions. Be sure to check out our Facebook page or Brimfield CUSD app for pictures from the festivities.
We have several things occurring next week. Our volleyball team has their final two home games on Monday and Tuesday. Don’t miss your chance to see them play; they provide quite the show. The PSAT/NMSQT will be given on Tuesday for the students who signed up. On Wednesday, our Prom Committee is sponsoring a fundraiser at Weaver’s restaurant. A percentage of all sales will come back to BHS to help the Prom Committee create another amazing experience for students in April. Parent/Teacher conferences are also next week, Wed. Oct. 23rd and Thurs. Oct. 24th. Directions for how to sign up for conferences can be found on the Brimfield CUSD 309 website. School will dismiss at 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday to allow time for conferences. Also, on Wednesday Mr. Zehr will be taking several students to Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention. This lasts into the weekend. Finally, there will be no school on Friday, but you can catch our football team at home in Elmwood against Lewistown/North Fulton.
BHS continues to focus on our attendance rate and keeping our chronic absenteeism rate down. Our school average daily attendance rate is 96.29%. Our chronic absenteeism continues to decrease and is currently at 7%. We currently have 13 students that have missed more than 10% of the school year. Please know that students must maintain an attendance rate of 90% to be able to participate in extracurricular activities. This information can be found on p. 17 of the BHS handbook. If your student is missing school for an appointment that cannot be scheduled outside of the school day, such as a doctor or dental appointment, please have him or her bring a note from the medical/dental office stating they were seen in their office. We will not count medically excused absences towards the extracurricular participation attendance rate. A note from the office is required to mark the absences as medically excused. Again, if a student’s attendance is 90% or higher he or she will be able to participate without issue.
On behalf of the entire BHS staff, have a lovely weekend and #Shape309.

Celebrating seniors!

We have continued our SHAPE 309 awards. These are some of our nominees so far this year. We have had 24 referrals and 2 whole class referals. BGS is a great place to be. Keep up the great work.

During Specials Class (PE, Art, Music, Library, Mrs. McGrath) classes earn points for staying engaged, following expectations, and making good choices. The winning class earns a prize (thank you PTO). 4th grade was the winner this time around and earned a GLOW Party (bracelets). Keep up the good work.

Geography in 4A. We are learning about absolute and relative locations in social studies. 4th grade latitude & longitude battleship!

Brimfield Grade School classrooms are full of learning and engagement this week:
-1st grade adding using counters and a 10 frame
-Kindergarten working in small groups with letter names and sounds (using a picture schedule to know what center they are in)
-8th grade ELA students writing and adding support and details
-8th grade Math cutting out squares and triangles to understand the Pythagorean Theorem

We had to do a double take when we had two students lose the same tooth at the same time in 4th grade.

Today during our Early Out teachers participated in a Live Zoom training on the Successful Implementation of IEPs. Other staff members completed a survey to support the work we will be doing on November 1st during our 11:30 institute day.

Volleyball players began delivering Pink Out shirts today. Most students picked up their family orders today at lunch.

Happy October from BHS! We loved seeing the smiles from kids today as they walked in and saw the 18ft. tall pumpkin tower today.
