Erin's Law

May 09, 2017

5/9/2017

Dear Parents or Guardians,

Brimfield School is pleased to partner with The Center for Prevention of Abuse to provide all schools with child sexual abuse prevention programs for the 2017 school year.  With twenty years of experience providing violence prevention education to tri-county area schools, the Center for Prevention of Abuse is an ideal resource to work with Brimfield Unit District.

“Keeping My Body Safe”, a unique school-based program, is a body-safety and abuse prevention program which serves all school-aged children Pre-K through 12th grade.  Each individual grade level presentation is based on the four body safety rules: “Say No, Get Away, Tell Someone and Be Believed” and includes helping students to identify safe adults to go to if they are in danger of or experiencing abuse.

The State of Illinois Mandate of “Erin’s Law” requires all schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education for students, yearly.  Children have the right to protect themselves from someone who tries to hurt them or make them feel uncomfortable.  Even if it is someone they know, trust or love.  The solution toward the elimination of abuse is awareness, education and prevention.  By completing the 35 – 45-minute age specific body-safety program, students will have received the prevention education required by “Erin’s Law”

Our school and The Center’s Prevention Educators are working together to keep our children safe.  The Center’s Prevention Department Educators will be presenting “Keeping My Body Safe” a Body/Safety Abuse Prevention Program at Brimfield Grade for 7th and 8th grade on May 16th at 2:00.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this important initiative. If you choose not allow your child to view this program, please send a note by May 15th.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Blane
Principal of Brimfield Grade School
