Applying to UIUC: Understanding the SRAR

UIUCtot no longer using transcript as part of admission process students will create a Self-Reported Academic Record [SRAR] online. If admitted and attending UIUC, official transcript will be required to verify SRAR information.

How to apply:
Must begin a UIUC application before you can access SRAR; plan to complete SRAR after completing application. Read directions on website about SRAR and watch tutorial video.

Tips on the UIUC Application:
1.    UIUC will NOT accept letters of recommendation; any letters that are submitted [termed“unsolicited materials” by UIUC] will NOT be attached to student file.
2.    Be sure to print a copy of each section of application as you complete it on
line. Once you submit application, you will NO LONGER HAVE ANY ACCESS to it.
3.    Application has ten steps, most of which are self-explanatory. Be sure to read the description of requested information on each page of the application.
4.    Step #7: BHS CEEB code - 140-410
5.    Step #9: Additional Information
Format might appear confusing; students are asked to list all activities in a prose format, not in a chart format. Create a Word document. We suggest students create a format and use it for each activity listed Ex: Activity, Position Held, Years Involved, # Hours/Week, # Weeks/Year. This section also asks for name and email for every moderator of every activity listed; we suggest students list names and emails only for 3-4 moderators who best know leadership style and character of student.

PRINT EACH SECTION BEFORE YOU SUBMIT!! ONCE YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION, YOU WILL HAVE NO ACCESS TO IT!

Once you have completed your application and you complete the Application Fee Payment page, you will see your Confirmation Page. In a bright orange box, you’ll see “Complete Your Self-Reported Academic Record.” If you wish to complete your SRAR at a later time, follow steps below.

Tips on SRAR Completion:
1.    To access SRAR, log in to UIUC admissions site, click on “Check Your Application Status”, access “Application Summary” and click on “Self-Reported Academic Record.”
2.    Need copy of transcript and senior year courses in order to complete SRAR
3.    Takes 60 minutes to complete; can save and return to SRAR at a later time; must print prior to submission; very detail-driven document
4.    First question asks what level of foreign language student will complete by graduation from high school
5.    Second question asks about high school; follow prompts online. Indicate your highest cumulative grade point average and check whether it is weighted or unweighted. List your graduation date, where prompted. Check that you are graduating from BHS. “Grading system” does not have to be completed.
6. “Courses and Grades” Section replicates transcript, listing every course and grade required, along with senior year courses in progress.
Subject: Choose from 1 of 5 categories [P/E, Fine and Applied Arts are “Other”]
Course: List title exactly as it appears on transcript
Grade: List semester grade [Senior courses – “In progress”]
Term: Two-step answer: must click on year taken and semester
Type: Must indicate if course is “Accelerated”, “Honors”, or “AP”, even if level is in class title]
Repeat: Click only if course has been repeated [most students will not complete anything in this column]. There are some sample SRAR’s for you to examine this year.
7. Accuracy is key! Have someone proofread your SRAR, if possible. Course title must match transcript, check year and term.

BE SURE TO PRINT A COPY OF THE SRAR PRIOR TO SUBMISSION: You
will not be able to access SRAR once you submit to UIUC!
