Peoria's Recycling Educator of the Year is Lonye Gilles!

Peoria County Recycling's educator of the year 2009-2010 is Lonye Gilles from Brimfield Grade School. Lonye is the district's Health Care supervisor and the grade school's character educator. Lonye has been with Brimfield school district for 22 years, beginning as a classroom aide. Lonye has done a wonderful job starting and expanding the recycling program at the Brimfield schools.
Aside from scheduling the County's recycling educator into the grade school classrooms twice a year Lonye has taken on an entire Earth Month schedule of classroom activities, traveling theatre with the older students and environmental fundraisers. Her "recycle a can/plant a tree" fundraiser combined with a “purchase a casual day” for the Brimfield staff members raised over $300 for a tree planting. Additionally, each day in April the morning announcements contained an environmental statistic, to further educate the students and faculty about environmental stewardship.
Lonye serves as a wonderful example to the staff and students she interacts with daily. Great Job and thank you!
