Fourth Grade Information

Homework
All homework is due at 8:00 each morning. Students are not allowed to finish homework in the morning at school. Late homework assignments will be completed at recess or at home the next day. All late work is reported to a parent and lowered one letter grade.
Homework Sheet
Students are expected to fill out their homework sheet each morning and show it to a parent each evening. Parent signatures will be checked off and monitored each day. This responsibility is considered part of your child’s homework and is figured into the effort grade. I tell students all the time that everyone makes mistakes, but it is an individual's job to make sure a mistake does not become a bad habit. While an occasional missed signature is expected as students learn responsibility and independence, consequences may be given to students who have frequent missing signatures (more than one per week).
Student Calendar
Please check your child’s calendar regularly. Stapled into each homework folder, this calendar helps us organize and remember test dates, popcorn days, and special events. Some items will be written in by the teacher at the beginning of each month; however students will help to add new significant dates as they arise.
Friday Folder
All student papers (Friday of previous week – Thursday of current week) will be sent home in the Friday folder each week. Parents should remove the graded papers, sign in the appropriate signature box, and return the folder with their child on Monday. Feel free to use the comment box to write words of encouragement to your child or a note to the teacher if necessary.
Demerits
Students will receive demerits for misbehavior this year. Typically one demerit is given for a minor offense. However, if a child has a demerit for a certain misbehavior and repeats that behavior during the week, the number of demerits will be increased. While any misbehavior may result in a discussion with the teacher, accumulation of five demerits in one week will result in a note home and in school detention (loss of a recess).
