Brimfield Schools Cooperate with Peoria County in Attendance Survey
Staying ahead of flu season
by Lonye Gilles
Due to the concern of the H1N1 virus, the Peoria County Health Department is asking schools to file a daily attendance report. This report will be used to track the number of student absences in schools across the county. If the numbers increase as we get deeper into flu season, immediate action can be taken.
To assist us with this, we are asking that parents give specific details when you call school to report your child’s absence, particularly if your child is suffering from flu-like symptoms. In turn, we will pass this information along to the county so the health officials at that level will be able to keep a close eye on how illnesses are traveling through Peoria County during flu season.
In cooperation with this, I would like to remind care givers the importance of keeping children home when they are sick. The students are in many places and come in contact with many people throughout the day. If they are ill, they are actively virus shedding. Our job is to keep all of the students safe and healthy. You can help us with this by making sure that your child is not at school infecting their friends and teachers with their illness.
And remember……children must be fever free without the help of medication for 24 hours before returning to school!
