The 3 C's for Staying Healthy

Healthy Lessons
As we enter cold and flu season, learning and practicing healthy habits is more important than ever. All of the students in pre-k through 5th grade gave up their p.e. time last week to get educated on The 3 C’s for Staying Healthy.
The 1st “C” is for Clean. Hand washing is the 1st defense against viral and bacterial infections. The students learned when to wash their hands, how to wash their hands, and how long they should wash to scrub those germs away.
The 2nd “C” is for Cover. All of the students learned that using their elbow or a tissue is the proper way to cover coughs and sneezes. We also discussed how these methods work to help trap those “germs” so they don’t make our friends and family sick.
The 3rd “C” is for Contain which means stay home when you are sick. We talked about the importance of keeping our germs “contained” in our homes so we don’t take our illnesses to school or work which may make our classmates or coworkers sick..
I think we could add a 4th “C” to our list, which is Common Sense. Using common sense to stay healthy means that we eat nutritious foods, get enough rest, wash our hands often, cover our coughs and sneezes, and stay away from others when we are sick. Practicing all of these good habits will help keep us and those around us healthy during the long months cold and flu season.
Ask your child or grandchild to share their new knowledge on the 3 C's for Staying Healthy. Have them show you the proper way to wash their hands and cover coughs or sneezes. Ask if they remember what Contain means and why it is important. The more we all practice these C's, the better off we all will be!
