H1N1 Facts
by Lonye Gilles
We know that the H1N1 virus is a big concern for everyone, but the bottom line in prevention is good old fashioned common sense.
At school, we are taking precautions to prevent the spread of illness. These include reminding the students to wash hands often and thoroughly and to cover coughs and sneezes with elbows instead of hands. Extra effort is being put into disinfecting things that the students come in contact with several times during the day like water fountains, light switches, door knobs, pencil sharpeners, etc.
Please help us in our effort to keep the children healthy by taking extra measures at home as well.
If your child is ill, please keep him/her home. We can not stress the importance of this enough.
If your child has missed school because of illness, please make sure they are feeling completely better before returning them to school.
Your child must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
Please be sure that we have up-to-date emergency contact numbers.
Check with your child’s teacher to see if it is permissible for your child to bring their own personal water bottle to school. This will cut down on cross contamination from water fountain use. Be sure these water bottles are taken home every day to be cleaned.
Symptoms of H1N1 are similar to the regular flu:
Fever
Cough
Sore throat
Body aches
Headache
Chills and fatigue
In some instances—vomiting and diarrhea
If you have any question that you or a family member may have flu, call your doctor immediately.
Our job is to provide a safe and healthy environment for all of the students and staff. By working together, we hope to make this school year healthy and happy for everyone.
